PCHS NEWS:
Feline Rescue Efforts: Cat Sponsors Needed
January 9th, 2011
It has been a long-time goal of the PCHS staff and the BOD to find more opportunities for the cats in Pulaski County. Between Animal Control adoption and PCHS rescue, the dog euthanasia rate is now very low. Unfortunately, this is not the case for our cats. The adoption rate isn't high enough to combat the amount of cats that come into our shelter, and rescue opportunities are few and far between because everyone already has an overabundance of cats.
Recently, we were lucky enough to find two rescues that are willing to save Animal Control and PCHS cats. This is extremely rare, and one of the reasons that they have taken so many of our cats is because we have offered to cover the cost of their medical care. So many shelters have cats that in order to make PCHS stand out, we need to go the extra mile. Essentially, The more medical care we can provide to the cats before they go, the more desirable our cats will be, and the more they will be willing to accept.
Since the first week in October, rescues have taken over 45 Pulaski cats, with plans to take more. This is UNPRECEDENTED.
In order to keep this program going, we are starting a fund for sending our cats to rescue. There is a wide range of "costs" associated with each cat, so any donation would help. Donations can be mailed or dropped off at our office, or you can donate online through our donation page (please select the "I would like to donate towards PCHS' Rescue Efforts." option).
Thank you for thinking of our cats!
